Bringing together professionals from the diamond and jewelry sectors, this mission provided a unique opportunity to engage with artisanal miners and gain firsthand insights into their daily challenges. Starting from the Radisson Blu Hotel in Freetown on April 8th, 2024, the team traveled along the Lunsar-Makeni Highway to Kono District, renowned for its abundant diamond resources and significant challenges.

There, delegates observed the artisanal diamond extraction process, interacted with miners, and donated clothing to local children, fostering community ties. The journey continued with visits to the Peace Diamond Village, showcasing sustainable practices, and discussions with Gem Fair officials on fair trade and transparency. As the mission concluded on April 11th, 2024, delegates departed inspired by Sierra Leone’s potential for economic transformation through responsible diamond practices, marking a significant step towards sustainable development and shared prosperity in the region.
